Witchy Mental Health: Can You Benefit from Reiki and Tarot Without Being a Believer?

Integrating Reiki, Energy Healing, Tarot, and Spirituality into Trauma Therapy: How It Enhances the Healing Journey

In my practice, I’ve found that while traditional psychotherapy is an essential tool for trauma processing, it’s not the only way to support healing. Integrating practices like Reiki, energy healing, Tarot readings, and spirituality can offer additional layers of support that help clients heal in ways that talk therapy alone may not reach. The beauty of these complementary tools is that you don’t have to be a believer to benefit from them. These approaches can work for anyone, regardless of their spiritual beliefs. Let me explain how they can enhance trauma therapy and why they’re always offered as a choice to my clients.

1. Facilitating Emotional Release and Healing

Trauma often involves emotions that are deeply buried, making them difficult to access with talk therapy alone. Reiki and energy healing focus on the body’s energy fields to help facilitate emotional release. These practices are designed to clear energy blockages and promote balance, allowing emotions tied to trauma to come to the surface and be processed.

I’ve seen clients experience profound emotional shifts when integrating Reiki into their trauma work. Even if clients don’t believe in energy healing, the experience of deep relaxation and emotional relief speaks for itself. A study in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine found that Reiki helps release emotional tension and promotes healing (Lee et al., 2018). Whether clients come in as believers or skeptics, they can still feel the benefit of this practice.

2. Strengthening the Therapeutic Alliance and Trust

Building trust is absolutely crucial, especially when working with trauma survivors who often struggle with feeling safe in relationships. Practices like Reiki and energy healing can help create a nurturing and calming space, which strengthens the therapeutic alliance. When clients feel safe and relaxed, they are more likely to open up and engage deeply in the healing process.

Tarot readings and spirituality also play a role here, offering clients a different way to explore their trauma. Tarot, in particular, provides a fresh perspective and can be a tool for reflection, much like sand tray therapy. Even if clients don’t believe in the metaphysical aspects, Tarot can offer symbolic insights that help them understand their experiences in new ways. All of this builds a deeper connection between therapist and client, helping to foster trust in the process.

3. Reducing Anxiety and Hyperarousal

Trauma often leaves people feeling anxious and constantly on edge. Reiki and energy healing can calm the nervous system, reducing anxiety and helping clients manage their trauma symptoms more effectively. The soothing nature of these practices allows clients to relax in ways that make them more receptive to therapy.

In fact, a review in Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice showed that Reiki can significantly reduce anxiety levels (Wang et al., 2017). Even for clients who don’t believe in the energetic principles behind Reiki, they often find the practice deeply calming, which allows them to engage in therapy with more clarity and openness. Incorporating mindfulness and spirituality also helps many clients feel grounded, regardless of their beliefs.

4. Encouraging Self-Reflection and Insight

Tarot can be a powerful tool for encouraging self-reflection, much like sand tray therapy, which is widely used in mainstream therapeutic practices. In sand tray, clients arrange symbols and objects to represent their inner world, allowing for non-verbal expression. Tarot functions similarly, offering symbolic imagery that helps clients reflect on their emotions and experiences from a different perspective.

Even clients who don’t believe in Tarot’s spiritual aspects can still use it as a tool for self-reflection and insight. The images and symbolism in the cards often provide a fresh way of looking at problems, leading to breakthroughs in understanding. Research in the Journal of Evidence-Based Complementary & Alternative Medicine supports this, showing that reflective practices like Tarot can enhance self-awareness and promote personal growth (Takahashi, 2019). I’ve seen clients gain valuable insights into their trauma through Tarot, even those who were initially skeptical.

5. Providing a Sense of Purpose and Meaning

One of the hardest parts of trauma is how it can make life feel meaningless or directionless. Spirituality offers a way to reconnect with a sense of purpose, providing comfort and hope during the healing process. Even clients who aren’t religious or spiritual can find value in practices like mindfulness, meditation, or simply reflecting on the bigger picture of their lives.

Spirituality can offer resilience and a renewed sense of purpose, which is crucial for trauma healing. Whether clients connect to a higher power, explore spiritual practices, or simply take time to reflect, these practices can bring comfort and hope, helping them navigate their trauma with more strength.

It’s Always Your Choice

While I’ve seen how these complementary tools—Reiki, energy healing, Tarot, and spirituality—can greatly benefit clients, I want to emphasize that your treatment is yours. These tools are always offered as optional additions to our work together. If you’re interested or open to exploring them, whether you’re a believer or not, they’re here for you. If you prefer to stick with more traditional methods, that’s perfectly fine too.

At the end of the day, the goal is for you to feel safe, supported, and empowered in your healing process. Whether that involves Reiki, Tarot, or simply traditional therapy, I’m here to walk alongside you on your journey to healing.

Conclusion: A Holistic Approach to Trauma Healing

In my practice, I integrate Reiki, energy healing, Tarot, and spirituality as complementary tools that can enhance the healing process. These practices facilitate emotional release, strengthen the therapeutic alliance, reduce anxiety, encourage self-reflection, and provide a sense of purpose and meaning. The best part is, you don’t have to believe in these practices to benefit from them. They’re offered as an optional layer of support, and you can engage with them as much or as little as you like.

Whether you’re curious about these holistic practices or simply want to stick with more traditional trauma therapy, the choice is always yours. My goal is to create a safe, personalized space where you can heal in the way that feels right for you.
